Filmový klub JCC a Festival Izraelského Filmu KOLNOA vás zvou na českou premiéru filmu „Židé z volby”, následovaná diskusi s režisérkou Justyna Gawełko.

Skupina Čechů bez židovských kořenů z periferního města Krnov se rozhodne opravit místní synagogu a obnovit židovský život v regionu. Problém je, že v okolí už nežijí žádní Židé, a tak se rozhodnou konvertovat, aby se stali prvními Židy v oblasti od dob holocaustu. Film sleduje šestiletou cestu osvojování židovského způsobu života, proces konverze a boj s úřady o uznání jejich identity, zatímco vnitřní napětí ohledně otázky „Kdo je skutečný Žid?“ postupně rozkládá komunitu a ohrožuje její budoucnost.

Krnov, a picturesque Czech town, was the home for a thriving Jewish community until the Holocaust. Half a century later, an unlikely alliance of ordinary Czech citizens comes together with one goal: to revive Jewish life in the region by renovating the local synagogue — and by converting to Judaism. They are Jews by choice, aspiring to give birth to the first Jewish community in the region since the Holocaust. Who is a Jew? Who can determine what it means to be Jewish? Their enthusiastic aspirations encounter numerous growing obstacles from the Jewish establishment, leading to internal strife and threatening the future of their close-knit fellowship.
