V roce 2017 natočil Joe Piscatella film Joshua: Teenager vs. Superpower. Protagonistou snímku byl hongkongský středoškolák Joshua Wong, který se stal jednou z hlavních tváří tzv. deštníkové revoluceׅ v Hongkongu. Piscatella ve svém novém dokumentu obrací kameru také na Wongovy dva přátele a kolegy – Agnes Chow a Nathana Lawa.

Dynamický mix rozhovorů a naléhavých záběrů z demonstrací a televizních reportáží přibližuje společné úsilí těchto tří mladých disidentů, kteří od roku 2014 aktivně vystupují proti narůstajícímu čínskému vlivu v Hongkongu.

V retrospektivním vyprávění společně s nimi zakoušíme vyčerpání a frustraci ze zdánlivě marného boje proti totalitní velmoci, ale také krátké okamžiky radosti z dílčích vítězství demokracie. Třeba když se Law ve svých 23 letech stává nejmladším zákonodárcem v historii země.

Joe Piscatella’s 2017 film Joshua: Teenager vs. Superpower focused on Joshua Wong, a student who became one of the main faces of the Umbrella Revolution in Hong Kong. In his new documentary, Piscatella turns the camera on Wong’s two friends and colleagues, Agnes Chow and Nathan Law

A dynamic mix of interviews and compelling footage from demonstrations and TV reports shows the joint efforts of these three young dissidents who have been actively opposing China's growing influence in Hong Kong since 2014.

In this retrospective narrative, we experience with them the exhaustion and frustration of their seemingly futile struggle against a totalitarian superpower, but also brief moments of joy at the partial victories of democracy – such as when Law, at 23, becomes the youngest legislator in the country’s history.
